A display case back shows you the rotor. A transparent case shows you everything - gear train, mainspring, balance wheel, from the front, the sides and the back at once. K9 is the same family of high-clarity optical glass used in precision lenses, and on the BG6004-R1 and BG6004-R2 it forms a 45 mm case 12 mm thick. It is hard and holds a polish well, but it behaves like glass rather than steel: it resists everyday scratching and chips under a hard knock against stone.
